Farragut TN Dogwood Trail is Open! Now Through April 26th.

The 7.9-mile Farragut TN Dogwood Trail will wind through Farragut, TN as part of the Dogwood Arts Festival’s 2015 Trails & Gardens event. The 7.9 mile trail is just part of over 60 miles of trails in the Knoxville area, the Farragut Trail will be open from April 8th to April 26th.

The Dogwood Arts Festival, currently in it’s 55th year, celebrates the natural and cultural beauty of East Tennessee. On the Farragut Trail you’ll enjoy 487 homes throughout Fox Den, Country Manor and Village Green subdivisions. All are welcome and invited to enjoy the trail with a walk, bicycle ride or drive.

The official sponsor of the Farragut Trail, “First Watch: The Daytime Café”, is hosting a weeklong “Bloomin’ Breakfast” event from April 13th to 17th, which will feature daily drawings and the opportunity to win a year-long weekly breakfast for two. The first 50 guests each day will receive a First Watch mug or coozie.

Lorena Estrada of WVLT Dancing with the Knoxville Stars for Children’s Hospital

Lorena Estrada, of WVLT Local 8 News, will be participating in this year’s Dancing with the Knoxville Stars, benefiting the Star 102.1 Radiothon for the East Tennessee Children’s Hospital.

Lorena and the other Knoxville Stars will be teaming with instructors from the Academy Ballroom dance studio in the competition which is scheduled for February 16 at 6 p.m at the Knoxville Expo Center.

Lorena will compete against WBIR sports achor Kris Budden, fitness expert Missy Kane, singer/songwriter Logan Murrell, former Vol Robert Peace, Knoxville News-Sentinel writer Jamie Satterfield, Star 102.1 DJ Shaffer, Renita Stinnett from the Knoxville Expo Center/Graham Corporation, former Knoxville first lady Janet Testerman, singer/songwriter and emcee at Dixie Stampede Jay Teter, and WATE anchor Bo Williams.

Tickets are $55 and can be purchased online (click here) or by calling the Children’s Hospital Development Office at (865) 541-8441. VIP tables are also available for $400.

Winners of the Dancing of the Knoxville Stars event will be determined by a combination of judges’ votes and online voting. When voting online: one dollar equals one vote. Guests can also bring their dollars to vote on the night of the show too.

The event is sponsored by Titanic Museum Attraction and Wells Fargo Advisors.

Farragut Folklife Museum to Hold February 2nd Grand Reopening

The community is invited to a grand reopening celebration at the Farragut Folklife Museum on Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012.

Following the ribbon cutting ceremony at 6 p.m., several local historians – including Gerald Augustus, Jack Bondurant, Frank Galbraith, Lou LaMarche, Mayor Ralph McGill, Malcolm Shell and Mona Smith – will give a presentation on “The History of Farragut and Concord” at 6:30 p.m. The evening will also include tours of the museum and light refreshments.

Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon Kids Run is hosting a kick-off fun run at the Knoxville Zoo

The Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon Kids Run is hosting a kick-off fun run at the Knoxville Zoo on Saturday, Feb. 4, at noon to encourage kids to take part in a winter fitness journey that culminates with an exciting and rewarding finish.

Children ages 12 and under can hop, skip, walk or run a fun mile at the Knoxville Zoo and log their first mile in a challenge to complete a full 26.2 mile marathon over the weeks leading up to the Covenant Health Kids Run March 31, 2012.

“The Covenant Kids Run is actually a two-month program that encourages the good habit of regular exercise at an early age,” said Beth LaFontaine, Covenant Health.

At the kick-off run, each child receives a log book to begin tracking their miles toward the 26.2 mile marathon goal. On race day, the children run their last mile together, finishing on the 50-yard line at Neyland Stadium just like the elite athletes do the following day.

Kids can register for the run on the day of the event starting at 10:30 a.m. or online at www.knoxvillemarathon.com. The fee for the zoo fun run is $15 per child and this also covers the child’s registration for the official March 31 Covenant Kids Run. Admission to the zoo is free for children registering and one accompanying guest. Additional guests get half-price admission to the zoo.

Looking for a fun outing? There are always lots of fun things happening with the animals at the Knoxville Zoo. Right now you can take advantage of Penguin Discount Days where you can get 1/2 price admission when buying your tickets at Kroger through February 29th.

Speaking of penguins, when you are at the zoo don’t forget to stop by and see Jello. It looks like Jello is quite the artist!
